The PathXL software is entirely web-enabled and has extensive functionality from security control, assigning user permissions, image viewing, image annotation, and image analysis. PathXL also offers a unique hosted service for organisations who wish to outsource the management, support and security associated with developing a virtual microscopy facility. Virtual slides are scanned and hosted in an off-site high performance image server cluster, providing the most robust and scalable framework currently in existence for digital pathology.

This service provides convenience, piece of mind and considerably lower long term costs to the customer.   Depending on user preferences, PathXL can also deploy and install their software onto an institutional server.
